Interior Design Assistant

Primary Job Functions: Interior Design Assistants support the overall design, marketing and sales goals of the organization. They assist with sourcing and selecting furniture/fabric/accessories, coordinating client meetings and measures, placing and tracking orders, meeting with vendors and updating and organizing the sample library. The Design Assistant will assist with project management, scheduling, client/trade partner communication, and administrative talks like answering the phone, updating databases, and filing as directed. They draw project floor plans, furniture space plans, elevations and detail sketches as needed. Reports to Senior Interior Designer and/or the Principal Designer.


  • Assist in all aspects of communication between Designers, Clients, and Trade Partners
  • Create detailed AutoCAD plans for projects including floor plans and elevations
  • Source, price and obtain samples/specs of materials and products for projects
  • Maintain specification spreadsheets with updated information
  • Produce accurate purchase orders and estimates for furnishings and blinds
  • Obtain confirmation and acknowledgement on all orders and alert Designers of any back orders or discontinued items
  • Track purchase orders to assure delivery dates and keep delivery schedule updated with any changes throughout the tracking process
  • Schedule and facilitate installations and deliveries
  • Inspect goods upon delivery and carefully document any damaged items
  • Facilitate claim process on damaged goods
  • Assist in communication and coordinating meetings with potential & existing clients
  • Assist in sales and marketing efforts (including social media and photoshoots) to drive more leads and help convert more prospective leads to clients
  • Prepare and track potential and finalized sales for analyzation
  • Keep the design library and office organized
  • Assist in administrative work including, but not limited to, phone calls, filing, lien waver & insurance updates, making appointments, organizing job information, and correspondence
  • Manage furniture showroom
  • Attend public events as a professional representative of the organization as directed
  • Assist in training and directing Interns/new Interior Design Assistants


  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Sketch-up & Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of and experience in working within a variety of interior design trends
  • Excellent color, texture sense and spatial planning skills
  • Excellent work ethic, positive demeanor and “do-what-it-takes” attitude
  • High level of detail orientation with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter and team player


  • 2+ years of experience in a design firm or related field
  • Minimum of AA degree in Interior Design, BA preferred
  • Retail and/or hospitality experience is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and own transportation
