Senior Interior Designer
Summary/Objective:
The Senior Interior Designer works directly with clients to interpret, organize, and execute a conceptual design. Senior designers will use creativity, foresight, sales techniques, and professional judgment to meet project requirements and carry out design completion. The Senior Interior Designer will be in charge of meeting with subcontractors, coordinating trade partner bids and presenting pricing/material options to clients. They are responsible for implementing strategic plans for bringing new leads to the company and meeting/exceeding quarterly and annual sales goals. They are a mentor/supervisor to other members of the design staff and help drive all sales and marketing efforts.

- Meets with potential clients and to determine client needs, draft Letter of Agreements and transform leads into project opportunities through proactive sales follow up measures.
- Conducts programming efforts with client’s projects such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, lighting and color coordination.
- Develops innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetically stunning, and profitable.
- Define design’s purpose and function that is reflective of client goals and within project budget.
- Coordinates color and material palettes.
- Designs and specify various installations including cabinetry, tile, lighting, carpet, painting, soft and hard window coverings, etc.
- Creates cabinet layouts, drawings and elevations with various details.
- Creates selection and specification of furniture, lighting, flooring, wall covering and plumbing fixtures.
- Estimates material requirements and preliminary costs.
- Specifies environmentally responsible products (LEED certification a bonus) when necessary or requested.
- Renders conceptual design ideas and prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings.
- Generates new leads and business opportunities independently.
- Prepares and conducts initial consultations, on site reviews and client LOA presentations independently.
- Prepares and updates documents during schematic design and design development phases.
- Solicits construction bids and manages client’s project.
- Maintains and keeps the project on budget and on schedule.
- Communicates with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support as necessary.
- Lead blind sales, pricing presentation, etc.
- Attends public events as a professional representative of the organization as directed.
- Participates in recruiting, hiring, training and retaining other members of the design firm when necessary.
- Provides support to all team members for specific field, style, or phase of interior design expertise.
- Mentors and directs the work of other Interior Designers and Interior Design Assistants.
- Leads specific marketing and sales efforts.
- Seeks the professional development of themselves, other Assistants/Interior Designers and the design firm in general.
Skills:
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Sketch-up & Microsoft Office Suite.
- Advanced knowledge of design trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
- Possess creative talent in conceptual design and rendering.
- Advanced knowledge of all building products: plumbing fixtures, equipment, architectural/interior finishes, lighting, and color schemes to carryout design intent.
- Advanced knowledge of general building regulations and safety codes.
- Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precise technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, generate leads, exceed sales goals and provide high quality service to clients.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent work ethic, positive demeanor and “do-what-it-takes” attitude.
- High level of detail orientation with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Presents self in professional manner both in appearance and in how one presents self.
- Team leader with the ability to delegate responsibilities to other Associate/Interior Designers.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in a design firm or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design and/or Construction Management.
- Entrepreneurial attitude and approach.
- Strong design sales experience, customer service, communication and organizational skills.
- Leadership experience within a team setting.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record, own transportation, and insurance.
- NCIDQ Certification preferred.
