After settling into their charming St. Paul home a few years ago, this growing family soon found it a struggle for the single bathroom with a tub to keep up with their daily routine. As their needs evolved, they found themselves longing for a more functional space that could accommodate multiple family members on busy mornings and evening bathtimes. The hustle and bustle of family life needed help. The homeowners turned to the Twin Cities Che Bella Interiors remodeling team to increase the efficiency in the space and update the aesthetics while maintaining the bathroom’s vintage charm.
The Story of ‘Before’
The original bathroom was the poster child for Art Deco styling, featuring bold pink tile trimmed in black. What a statement! While the vintage detail was undeniable, the family found themselves craving a fresh, modern update that would better suit their style and daily routine while still honoring the home’s character.
The original layout featured a wood window in the shower, a misplaced sconce, and a cluttered vanity. Storage was in short supply and much sought after by the homeowners.
The Transformation – The Stunning ‘After’
With a vision for a more functional and stylish space in hand, the Che Bella crew conducted a complete transformation of the St. Paul, MN remodeled bathroom. The bold Art Deco elements gave way to a fresh, modern design that seamlessly blended classic charm with contemporary convenience. Bright, neutral tones replaced the pink and black tile, creating a light and airy atmosphere. Thoughtful storage solutions, updated fixtures, and sleek finishes turned the once-cramped space into a serene retreat perfectly suited for this growing family’s needs.
The original arched detail, replicated in other places in the home, is preserved in the new design. It plays beautifully with surrounding design elements. Grounding the room, a newly added braided chevron recycled glass floor tile offers contrast against the curves of the arch.
Champagne brushed bronze fixtures shine brightly against shower wall tiles in varying shades of green laid vertically, offering a handmade feel. Similarly, the sink faucet pops off of the vanity’s crisp white countertop.
Giving a nod to the home’s treasured history, a custom walnut vanity with antique glass knobs ties into the bathroom’s original green glass doorknob. The vanity offers deeper storage while accommodating an elongated tub. Adding modern convenience, a new medicine cabinet with built-in lighting and interior power hangs above the vanity.
Adjacent to the cabinet, a custom-designed hanging shelf and towel bar maximize space. As a final touch, woven wallpaper softens the room’s hard surfaces, and a sculptural alabaster stone ceiling light provides a touch of elegance, functionally transforming the space while paying homage to the home’s historic origins.
