Interior Design – Summer in Minnesota
We often work with clients that have a love of the outdoors, or at least the outdoors during the warm months of Spring and Summer. It’s important that if you are thinking of building a home that you also think of how your exterior spaces and interior spaces will relate. We wrapped up several projects within the last year where our clients will be able to enjoy the breeze without the bugs and open doors from screen porches to their home. Cross ventilation is important in your home and so is the benefit of additional square footage and the feeling that you’re enjoying nature in a comfortable fashion. I would love to say that we could install large sliding doors everywhere and truly have an indoor and outdoor space without the screens, but the reality is that in Minnesota your home would be littered with bugs/mosquitoes by the end of the night.
We met this client while we were giving a design seminar in 2012. During that meeting she asked our opinion on a few items that she was working through on her plan and one of them was the door leading to her porch. We had recently had a project where clients installed a double slider and mentioned that it would be a great solution. Only a few months later we began making selections on their home and while she has a full wrap around screen porch – this element is my favorite. The access to the back porch and the double slider is stunning. You can instantly feel the cool summer breeze coming through the screens and into the house.
How will you bring the outdoors in?
