Good interior designers are very skilled in creating an overall style that is a blend of opposing tastes and preferences of homeowners and family members. But let’s face it, we’ve all seen the scenario where in some fashion, the woman’s perspective wins out over her male counter-point’s opinion. In honor of Father’s Day coming up on June 16th, I jumped on Houzz to pull together some good inspiration for masculine design that is done in a tasteful fashion. Cheers to the special men in our lives who probably don’t quite share the same passion for design that we do. And no purple or floral patterns, I promise!
Geometric pattern in the coverlet, side chair and ottoman, draperies, wallcovering, and carpet create layers of coordinating design elements and visual interest without becoming feminine. The cityscape artwork over the bed is a nice modern touch.
The bold artwork is a good compliment to the neutral grays and blues that set the tone for this space. Pops of red in the art and accessories keep the space from becoming dull.
Laying the gray wall tile on the horizontal mimics the horizontal lines in the vanity wood grain and creates a cohesive feel in the space. Adding art with text and a plant is a good way to stay gender neutral and accessorize while keeping the masculine feel.
Choosing a non traditional felt color in this steel blue for the pool table is the perfect way to ground the largest, heaviest piece in the room into the overall design of the space. Using vintage sports memorabilia as artwork adds to the relaxed and ‘lived-in’ feel in the room.
Pieces like the tufted sofa with rolled arms and the large mirrored coffee table bring a softer balance to the more masculine pieces of the animal rug and dark leather ottomans. The neutral color palette of cream, brown, and tan is understated but still inviting.
A mixing different materials, like the stone sink, mirrored medicine cabinet, and glazed wall tile creates a space where the materials balance each other out to create a cohesive design.
