Home Renovations and Materials Selections: A Guide to Selecting the Perfect Materials
While Dr. Seuss gave us ‘Oh the Places You’ll Go!,’ interior designers could pen an equally inspiring tale titled ‘Oh the Decisions You’ll Make!,’ when embarking on an interior design or home remodel project. There are so many decisions that go into designing a beautiful space. From lighting to furniture and fabric, from window treatments to flooring, the decisions are countless. The Twin Cities Che Bella Interiors Design + Remodeling team guides homeowners through the process of transforming a home decision by decision. With so many factors to consider when narrowing down materials, such as balance, lighting, budget, and more, our design team collaborates with homeowners for a seamless experience. Let us give you a behind-the-scenes tour of what materials selection looks like from a designer’s perspective.
Mood Boards – Yes, Please!
You may have heard the term ‘mood board’ or ‘inspiration board.’ Simply put, a mood board is a collection of ideas and items that sets the tone for an interior design or home remodel project. Your mood board can include a myriad of items such as photos, products, fabric and materials samples. It’s not unusual to see family heirlooms, pieces of clothing in a favorite hue or found items make the board.
The objective of the process is to gather items in one place. A mood board is a fantastic starting point and a tool we use when presenting a design idea to clients to help visualize the direction of a project. It aligns homeowners and the design team on the desired vision for a space.
As the project evolves and selections are made, actual materials replace the inspiration pieces. Handles and pulls, paint swatches, textural pillow coverings, and more are added to the mix, bringing the inspiration to life.
The Good Stuff – Selecting Furniture and Furnishings
With inspiration in hand, the process moves toward materials and product selections. At Che Bella Interiors, our projects frequently include custom furniture, rugs, lighting, fixtures, window treatments, art, accessories, soft window treatments and much more. When selecting pieces, we like to take into account your lifestyle, taste and budget.
We understand that making choices about furnishing your home can be both exciting and daunting. Fortunately, it happens to be something we love! At Che Bella Interiors, we provide signature full-service design of furnishings to transform your home. Our Lakeside whole-home remodel showcases custom furniture, including sofas, chairs, accent tables, and décor, both in our main floor addition and in the lower level remodel.

In addition, these design workhorses, like the silhouette blinds used in our Big Relax home addition project, also provide privacy and energy savings.
