Designer Favs: Carpet and Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring
Choices abound with flooring today. If you’ve done any shopping at all, you know that the market is flush with options. For this month’s Featured Favorites, we’re focusing on stunning carpets and LVP – or Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring – two of Che Bella designer Stef Cohoe’s favorite flooring selections.
Before Stef shared the specifics about her flooring top picks, we asked her what homeowners should keep in mind when selecting flooring for their home. She advises homeowners to consider where the flooring will be laid – main floor, upstairs, or in a lower level where moisture levels may be higher. And to consider if the flooring will be in a high-traffic area. She recommends homeowners think about their lifestyle and how much work they want to put into keeping up with the floor. Consider how it will feel underfoot and remember that there is so much more to flooring than its visual appeal.
Tuck those considerations away and let’s dive deeper into Stef’s flooring of choice!
All Things Carpet
Stef waxes poetic about flooring, especially carpet. “At Che Bella, because of the variety of projects we work on, from basement remodels to design for new home construction, we really get to play with a mix of flooring options. And I do mean play! Folks chuckle when I share that carpet makes me swoon!” Stef explains that carpet today isn’t like the shag of old. Today, carpets are soft and warm and come in so many colors and patterns.
Cut and Loop
Stef shares that cut and loop carpet is at the top of her list at the moment as she can really lean into a design when she brings it into the fold. Cut and loop carpet has a combination of high-cut tufts and lower loops which combine to create sculptured designs. How it’s manufactured has a direct impact on its high degree of durability. Stef finishes, “blend the durability of cut and loop with its visual allure and you have winner for sure!”
Patterned Carpets
Patterned carpets are another of Stef’s favorites and she fancies, “why let the walls and accessories in the room have all the fun with décor – let the floors in on the game!” Subtle carpet patterns take a straightforward design and turn it into something extraordinary. “One of my favorite bedroom projects used a classic plaid tone-on-tone carpet as the base for the design. What a fantastic juxtaposition!”
LVP Flooring
Another of Stef’s preferred flooring options is a luxury vinyl plank, commonly known as LVP. And she’s not alone. LVP is taking the design world by storm by offering the realistic look of wood or stone without the maintenance that comes with natural products. Its enhanced durability and longevity are a plus. LVP mimics wood and stone and is produced using a brilliant adaptation of 3D print technology.
“The greatest feature of LVP is that it is water-resistant,” Stef shared. “LVP is well-suited for areas prone to moisture or those that have to endure dripping wet feet.” Lower levels, entertainment spaces, poolside rooms and lakefront homes have met their match with LVP.
When discussing its durability, Stef shares, “I used LVP in a deep espresso color in a recent lower-level Lake Elmo, MN refinishing project. It’s a perfect fit as the homeowners are constant entertainers. They didn’t want to worry about spills and wanted a floor that could stand up to lots of foot traffic.”
It’s on the mark to say that LVP flooring is an ideal choice for a busy household filled with entertainers, kids, and animals alike. Nearly indestructible, these floors stand the test of time.
