On the Shores of Crystal Lake Sat a Home Awaiting Transformation
This month, we’re sharing with you the story behind a stunning Master Suite remodel of a lakefront home. The homeowner had secured a coveted, lake-front home on the spectacular shoreline of Crystal Lake in Burnsville, MN, a southern suburb of Minneapolis. While the location and breathtaking views were picture-perfect, the interior was ripe for a transformation, providing a challenging, yet still inspiring, canvas for a remodel. The initial scope for this Burnsville, MN included interior design services for a makeover of the master bedroom, and a master bathroom remodel, which featured dated finishes, cramped spaces, and a lack of privacy. The client’s wish list included removing the oversized tub, adding a more modern color palette, tile, and textures, as well as enhancing privacy to transform their master retreat into the space of their dreams.

Che Bella’s designers used creative space planning and artful design to create a swoon-worthy master retreat that features a transitional, tranquil vibe – a perfect pairing with the home’s lakefront setting, delivering on the homeowners’ wish for a more light, bright and private master bath and bedroom. We’re loving this finished Burnsville, MN master retreat with its beautiful mix of form and function, along with timeless, high-end touches that make this gem sparkle.
Main functional issues:
- Oversized tub needed to be removed due to difficulty getting in and out
- Finishes were dated
- Space felt cramped and didn’t provide adequate storage
- Lack of privacy in shower
- Dark paint in bedroom made the space look small

Improvements incorporated in master bathroom remodel and master bedroom remodel:
- Added a coastal vibe using crisp white cabinetry and trim balanced against softer neutrals on the walls and custom bedding and pillows in master bedroom
- Mixed and matched different finishes including a cork metallic wallpaper, linen tufted headboard, hexagon-shaped porcelain floor tile and blue accent wall of tile in shower
- Modernized light fixtures and window treatments, including adding motorized blinds and custom stationary drapery panels
- Created more storage using built-in linen cabinet and hidden medicine cabinets in vanity mirrors
- Extended walls of showers to add privacy
- Leveraged newly discovered wall cavity to create a bench seat within the shower
